SALE OF WORK.

PRESBYTERIAN LADIES’ GUILD.

NETHERTON CHURCH BENEFITS. The! annual sale of. work by the Netherton Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild was held in the Netherton Hall on Thursday last and proved to be a great success- The object oft this sale was to augment the building fund for the church, which is under construction.

The. sale was opened by Mrs Lowden, who made special mention of <the untiring efforts of the guild and its president, Mrs Dally, and secretary, Mrs Stembridge. Good business was reported by all the stallholders, and the funds will benefit to the extent of approximately £lOO. This is considered to be highly satisfactory and pleasing to all those who had worked so hard to make the sale a success.

The cooking competitions were keenly contested, and the; display was a pleasing one indeed. The judge, Mr B. Halligan, had a difficult task in making his awards, so even were the exhibits. The results of the competition were as follows :—

Fruit cake, Mrs Trotter .1, Miss M. Vowles 2 ; seed cake, Miss M. Vowles 1, Mrs J. S. Crosbie 2 ; butter sponge, Mrs Sanders 1, Mrs Vercoe 2; plain sponge, Mrs McKenna 1, Miss A. Harold 2 ; sponge roll, Mrs T. Vowles 1, Mrs Fraser 2 ; shortbread, Mrs A. McKee 1, Mrs Ward 2 ; scones, Mrs J: Morrison 1, Mrs Fraser 2 ; pikelets, Mrs McKenna. 1, Mrs Dally 2 ; gingerbread, Mrs W. Potter 1, Mrs J. S. Crosbie 2 ; bread, Mrs McKenna 1, Mrs J- Morrison 2.

The nail-driving was also keenly contested, and the winners were Mrs McNeil, senr. (ladies), Mr C. McNeil (men), and Reg Shilton (boys). The skipping competition for girls was won by Dulcie Johnson, and the quoits for men by Mr Scudamore. Thq various stalls, with their stallholders, were as follows : — Afternoon tea, served in Hall sup-per-room, Mesdames Dally, Bell, Trotter, and Miss Trotter ; fruit salad, on the stage, Mrs Crosbie, Misses E. Bell and J. Vowles ; cake, Mrs and Miss Whisker ; sweets and ice-cream, Mrs Stembridge, Misses Craig, Adam, and Bradshaw ; produce, Mesdames Death and Epps; plain sewing, Mesdames McNeil and A'. Vowles ; fancy goods, Mesdames Adam and Potter; Christmas tree, Mrs Locke and Mr A. Morrlsori.
