A satisfactory contract for.the supply of three super-heated tank locomotives was signed at the office of Messrs A. and G. Pricey Ltd., at Thames yesterday by officers of the Railway Department, It is expected that the locomotives will bq delivered within the nepct six months fpr use on the main North Island lines.
Entries received in all cattle sections at the Thames Valley A., P., and H. Show at Te Aroha this year constituted a record for the association. In the Jersey cattle section 125 entries were, received, and 65 for Friesian cattle. The horse .classes, numbering over 60 entries, exceeded expectations and extra accommodation had to be provided.
At Christchurch yesterday Hugh John McLeod was convicted and ordered to pay costs for having started a scheme whereby prizes were disposed of by a mode of chance. The second charge of selling liquor without a license was dismissed. The magistrate said this was certainly not a case of sly-grog selling. Defendant ran a scheme to help the school improvement fund, and the prizes 'included bottles of whisky and bottles of beer.
Satisfaction was expressed by exhibitors at the Thames Valley Show on Wednesday at the provision made for the issue of very highly commended (green) and highly-commend-ed (white) award cards. One exhibitor was heard to remark that the Hauraki Show at Paeroa might very well adopt a similar provision.
