PRESENTATION.

FATHER DUNPHY HONOURED.

GIFT FROM CONVENT CHILDREN.

A presentatiion was made to the Rev. Father W. C. J. M, Dunphy by the pupils of St. Mary's Convent, Paeroa, on Wednesday afternoon. Before the presentation was made the scholars rendered a number of enjoyable, items, Miss C. Taylor acting as accompanist.

On behalf of the pupils Master C. Nielsen referred to the severe loss the school and church would sustain by the transfer of Father Dunphy to Otahuhu. What was Paejroa’s less would be a gain for the parish of Otahuhu. Reference was made to the practical help and kindly interest their guest had always taken in the school and the welfare of its scholarsConsiderable progress and much good work had been performed under the guidance of Father Dunphy, to whom the, parents, as well as the pupils, were sincerely grateful. On behalf of the children the speaker asked Father Dunphy to accept a handsome, travelling rug as a slight token of the love and esteem in which he was held. In conclusion Master Nielsen wished their guest God spqed and every success, and expressed the hope that he would long be spared to continue his work in teaching the GospeJ of Truth. Prolonged applause greeted Father Dunphy as he rose to respond. In thanking the pupils-for their tangible expression of esteem he said he, was deeply touched by the presentation and the kind sentiments expressed. What he had been able to ‘do for the welfare; of the school had been a labour of love, and he was proud to know that his efforts had been appreciated. He would treasure highly the handsome gift he had received, and although he was leaving Paeroa shortly he would continue to follow the affairs of the parish and take a keen interest in the school and the success of its pupils. In conclusion he counselled the children to apply themselves diligently to their learning, and'wished them the best of good fortune for the future.

Father Dunphy, who is to be tendered a public farewell on Wednesday night, leaves for Otahuhu on Thursday next.
