PAEROA DOMAIN.
MONTHLY MEETING OF BO ABD.
USE OF GROUNDS GRANTED. The monthly meeting of the Paeroa Dom ain Uoat'l v.as held at the Municipal Chambers on Thursday night, the chai-’.fan 'Mr W. Marshall) presiding over Messrs P. E. Brenan, F. E. Flatt, E. Edwards, J. W. Silcock, H. J. Hare, W. Turner, and W. C. Alex>ander (secretary). USE OF DOMAIN. The Hauraki A. and P. Association applied for the use of the domain and permission to charge for admission on December 8, on which data the annual show was to be held. Tr.king all the circumstances into consideration, Mr Brenan said that he wished to move that the association be granted the use of the domain at a rental of £7 10s, reducible to £5 if paid before; January 31, 1928, similar to last year’s arrangements. Mr Brenan said that there was still a great deal of work to be done at the domain, and very little revenue was coming in. He believed the association would increase its finances by the holding of a one-day show, and would be in a good position to pay the rental. Seconded by Mr Turner and carried.
A similar application was received from the Paeroa Athletic Club for December 17, on which day the annual meeting was to be held. Permission was also sought to erect a brush fence for the purpose of providing a BoyScouts’ fire-fighting and rescue display.
It was pointed out by Mr Brenan that the athletic club was a club which required fostering. He felt sure that members of the, board had assisted the club, and the board had also treated it generously in regard to rent for its meeting last year. He thought that the time had come when the. club had reached a position where it might make an effort to reimburse the board. He therefore moved that the application be granted dt a rental of £2 10s, the club to pay the cost of advertising.
With reference to the application for peirmission to give a fire-fighting demonstration, this was also granted, subject to the approval of the chairman of the Domain Committee. USE OF TENNIS COURT. The Presbyterian Young People’s Bible; Class wrote; offering to contribute 30s for the exclusive right to one domain tennis court, and in the event of people of the Methodist Church joining in with the, Presbyterian Club a further donation .would be made later, in the event of a club being formed.
Mr Flatt said he was inclined, to grant the request. At the present time the board was doing no good with the courts. If the courts became, popular again there was every prospect of a new club being formed, and the area would then become rev-enue-earning. The chiarman said that under the present arrangements some players took possession of a court, and by their selfishness excluded others from playing. There were no definite rules governing play at the present time, and those who were in possession were indifferent about giving them up. He had been interviewed on the matter, and felt inclined to approve of the request. On .the motion of Mr Flatt, seconded by Mr Hare, it was decided to grant the exclusive use of the court for four days a week at a nominal rental of £1 10s, the position to be reviewed again later. FEEDING OFF GRASS.
It was decided to ask the lessee of the playing areas to put on a, number of head of young stock so as to feed off the long grass. Mr Brenan said he had already seen Mr Buchanan, who had put on some stock, but a greater number was required to do any good.
