MOTOR ACCIDENT.
COLLISION AT PIAKO CROSSING.
PAEROA TAXI DAMAGED.
While returning from Cambridge on Monday evening a large taxi owned by Messrs Brenan and Co., Paeroa and driven by Mr E. Moore, sustained a broken wheel near the Pi.ako station railway crossing on the main road. The ; break was of such! a nature that it was, necessary to leave the car on the roadside while the driver went, back to Morrinsville foi assistance.
While the driver was away a large car driven by Mr T. Moss, of Te Aroha, and containing two other men and three girls, in attempting to take tlie turn over the crossing left the road and cannoned with terrific force into the, stationary vehicle. The occupants of the car suffered abrasions and bruises, and one of the girls was thrown over the windscreen.
Botli the car and taxi were seriously damaged. The taxi, was brought back to Paeroa last night, and it is a sorry-looking spectacle. The drivers side of the vehicle-—mudguards, run-ning-board, and chassis! —is badly crumpled and otherwise damaged. It is understood that Mr Moss took the turn at a high speed, and had his machine not collided with the taxi a more serious accident would have resulted, as the car could not have avoided striking a six-foot roadside drain.
