LABOUR DAY MATCH.
PAEROA DEFEATS WAIHI.
The local cricket season opened at the domain on Monday, when the Pae,roa Cricket Club played a match against a Waihi eleven. Owing to the heavy rain that prevailed during the morning, time permitted of a single innings maten only. The home side had a comfortable win by 57 runs. The new concrete pitch was, played on for the; first time and gave every satisfaction. For .the local team G. Sale played a sterling innings for 81 runs before succumbing to an easy ball from Littlefair. Included in Sale’s score were eight fours and a six. W- Flower (19), and G. Stack (13) were, the only other players to reach double figures. The outstanding fieldsmen were H. M. Shand and W. H. Taylor. The former held three catches at point, while Taylor, in addition to smart all-round fielding, held a hard catch from Thorpe. Of the visitors Young was the; star performer with the bat, and compiled 43 runs, including two 6’s and six 4’s. Thomson (32) and Skiffington (10) also batted freely for their runs. The Piako Cricket Association’s competition commences on Saturday next. In the first round the Paeroa Club has entered two teams, and single-innings matches only will be played.
