CRICKET.
ACTIVITIES OF PAEROA CLUB. CONCRETE PITCH PUT DOWN. Through the enterprise and enthusiasm of members of the Paeroa Cricket Club a concrete cricket pitch has been put down at the local domain, and will be available for play when the season commences in earnest.
On Saturday afternoon last a workIng bee of some 20 members, under the guidance of Mr G. Stack, put down in concrete a pitch 22 yards long, six feet wide, and three inches in depth. Many hands made light work, and with the assistance of a concrete mixing machine loaned by Mr W. Marshall, and a motor lorry to j cart the necessary material, the job was completed before sundown. The cost of the materials is being raised by donations from the club members and supporters. As soon as minor improvements are made to the outfield, the club anticipates having a playing area second to none in the district. This year there is every indication of considerable interest being taken in cricket locally, and the club, judging by the present membership, will be .able to field two teams during the season. For the third year in succession Paeroa hasi affiliated With the* Piako Cricket Association, and as the local team lias been runner-up for the championship for two years in succession a determined effort is to be made this season to bring the coveted trophy to Paeroa. Weather permitting, the first practice will be held at. the domain on Saturday afternoon, and an endeavour is being made to arrange a match either at Paeroa or away for Monday next (Labour Day).
