POWER BOARD REVENUE
EFFECT OF DAYLIGHT SAVING.
LOSS TO BE EXPECTED.
“The Daylight Saving Act Is a factor which was not taken into account when the, estimates were drawn up, and must have an appreciable effect on our finances,” said the secretary(Mr G. Brown) in his report to the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Power Board. “During the four months it is In operation I am of the opinion that, including street lighting, the loss in revenue to this board will amount to at leasft £lllOO. In spite of this, I am of the opinion chat our estimate will be exceeded.” In answer to ah inquiry Mr Brown said that the loss would accrue on both house and street lighting, as the lights would not be in use| so long during the daylight-saving period. An hour’s lighting a day would be lost. Mr R J. King said that despite the position of the board, which, for that matter, was quite satisfactory, it was pleasing to see that £l6OO would be saved the ratepayers. That daylight saving Would keep people up later at night was the opinion expressed by Mr H. P. Hugo, who said that accordingly, it seemed to him, the same amount of lighting would be used. The discussion lapsed.
