DIFFICULTY OVER

AN OFFER FROM OHINEMURI.

The Thames Jockey Club, through the vice-president, Mr E. J. Clendon, recently approached the -Ohinemuri Jockey Club as to the possibility of racing on the latter’s course at the end of October next, owing to the Thames course having been condemned .as unsafe by Mr Hill, caretaker for the Auckland Racing Club.

Though there was very little time before a reply was required, the members of the Paeroa committee agreed at once to allow the Thames Club to race, and decided that, under the circumstances, only a nominal charge should be made for the use of the course and the appointments. The Course Committee also inspected the race-track, and was of opinion that this would be in flYst-class order for racing by the date fixed for the Thames meeting.

Seeing that the Thames fixture is the only opportunity this district has of attending a race meeting locally, from March until the following February, it is hoped the opportunity to race at Paeroa will be availed of. Such a meeting should be highly successful financially From information that can be gathered it is not likely, however, that the club’s offer Will be accepted.
