BASKETBALL.
HAMILTON V. PAEROA. NARROW WIN FOR HOME TEAM. On Saturday last the first lepresentative basketball match of the season was played in the- High School grounds when the Paeroa Association entertained two teams, A and B, from the Hamilton Basketball Association. A large -number of spectators gathered on the- grounds, and thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon’s sport. The Hamilton girls were met at the station and escorted to the school wherethey were entertained to afternoon tea. The matches were started at 3 p.m., when the A representatives played a very interesting and hardfought game, the score at half-time being 12 all, and 24 to 23 at the call of time,’ the Paeroa girls being successful in notching a victory. The B teams played a good game, but the Paeroa girls again proved themselves to be a superior team, the scores being 21 to 8, in their favour. Considering that the Hamilton Association has a, much larger number of teams in their -area than the Paeroa Association has, the local girls deserved great credit for their double win. After the matches the visitors were entertained to tea at Mr Leach’s, and returned home by the evening train, after an enjoyable outing.
