CAPSIZE OF MOTOR CAR.

MISHAP NEAR NGATEA.

DRIVER’S NARROW ESCAPE

What might have easily been a fatal accident occurred near Ngatea last Thursday afternooon. It appears that Mr H. A. Julian, quarry manager of Drury, and late of Paeroa and Hikutaia, was driving towards Paeroa when his car capsized. Mr Julian was looking at his watch, and while his attention was diverted he was steering his car towards the edge of the metal. On a wheel striking a bump the driver’s attention was drawn to the direction in which the car was heading and he turned the wheel sharply, with the result that the car slewed round and across the road and rolled over on to its wheels.

The hood and windscreen were smashed and the car sustained other damages, but Mr. Julian escaped with sundry bruises to his back, head, and knees.

Apparently, when the car capsized Mr Julian was sent backwards over the back of his seat and on the next turn he was thrown on to the road.

Among the first to arrive on the scene was Mr E. L. Walton, county chairman, who took the injured man to the County Office, where first-aid was rendered by Mr A? E. Ludlow.
