SCHOOL GIRL INJURED.
RUN INTO BY MOTOR-CYCLIST.
ACCIDENT IN NORMANBY ROAD.
Shortly before 12.30 p.m. on Saturday a schoolgirl named Jea,.n Crawford, who resides with her parents in Cassrels Street, Paeroa, was knocked down by a motor-cycle ridden by a lad named Thomas Burke.
It appears that Burke was riding the machine along Normqnby Road at about 10 miles an hour when the girl ran across the road from the Economic. She noticed the motor-cycle approaching and hesitated. At the same moment Burke, who was travelling in the; centre of the road, swerved slightly to his right and slowed down in an endeavour, to avoid a collision. Unfortunately, just as he did so the girl again ran forward right in front of the machine. The handlebars struck her and threw her heavily to the ground, while Burke was thrown off the cyclo and a general mix-up followed.
Passers-by quickly went to the assistance of the victims, and the gill, who appeared to be badly hurt, was carried into Mr de Castro’s shop. Dr. Little was summoned, and it was found that the injuries sustained were fortunately nothing worse thah severe abrasions and shock. After receiving attention the little sufferer was able to walk to her home later in the afternoon.
Burke escaped with a shaking, and the motor-cycle was practically undamaged.
Witnesses of the collision state that it was purely accidental, and had the girl remained still Burke could have passed with safety.
