PAEROA, MONDAY, MAY 2.

JUDGMENT SUMMONS CASES.

The following verdicts were give, by Mr F. W. Platts, S. M., at the loca Magistrate’s Court on Monday after noon :—

W. Croker was ordered to pay the Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., the sum of £35 Is 7d forthwith, in default 17 days’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended so long as the debtor paid 10s a week ; first payment to be made by June 2. C. Lomas was ordered to pay M. K. Reid the sum of £lO 9s 6d forthwith, in default five days’ imprisonment; warrant to be suspended so long as debtor paid half the amount before June 2 and the balance before July 2. Mr C. N. O’Neill, solicitor, Paeroa, sought to recover £9 19s 3d from A. Pilbrow.

Alfred Pilbrow, sharemilker, Kaipaki, Ohaupp, said that his earnings were from £3O to £5O a month. His cheque in December, 1926, was £3B, in January, 1927, it was down to £32, and in April it had dropped to £l7. He was a married man with seven children, the eldest, of wh'om was 19 years of age. June, July, and August were the months when he had nothing coming in. No rent was paid, but £2 10s hatl to be paid for electricity for milking. He was quite willing to pay, but, he had hot the money to spare at present. He was paying one son £6 a month to assist on the farm and another son about £2 a month pocket money.

The magistrate said that under the. circumstances he would not make an order at present.

Messrs P. Williams, Ltd., Paeroa, sought to recover the sum of £4' 15s lid on a judgment summons from John Martin-

John Martin, labourer * Wharepoa, said that his earnings since November amounted to £77, approximately. He was married and had five children. There was no rent to pay and milk was also free. A farm was leased on ii one-sixth share and was managed by his wife, and children while he did labouring work. The largest cheque received from the farm was £7 a month, and the returns had been as low as £1 10,s a month. The cattle were- subjected to a bill of sale, to the dairy company. The magistrate said it was not possible to make an order under the circumstances.
