BASKETBALL.
ANNUAL MEETING. SATISFACTORY POSITION SHOWN. The third annual meeting of the Paeroa Basketball Association was held on Monday night, tlie president (Mr G. H. Taylor) presiding over an attendance of forty members. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report was read by the secretary (Miss C. L. Taylor) as follows :— “Your committee- has pleasure* * n presenting the annual report, and extends congratulations to the members on having enjoyed a successful season. During the season two grades had been formed, with three teams competing in tlie senior grade and five in the junior grade, compared with six teams the previous season. “Shield and Cup.—After three rounds tlie senior shield was won by the Areta team, captained by Miss Hamilton. A silver cup was purchased by the association for junior competition, and after two rounds was won by Kiwi A team.
“Matches. —Only one representative match was played during the season when two teams travelled to Hamilton. The A team lost, but the B team was victorious. The association donated £5 towards the. expenses of the teams.
“Dance. —A dance was held at the close of the season when the shield and cup were presented. The e.veniiYg was an outstanding success, both /socially and financially. Thanks are due to all friends who donated prizes and the supper, and also to those members wno worked so hard to make the social a success. “Primary Shield. —During the season your association, in order to encourage basketball among the primary schools of the Goldfields, had pleasure in donating a shield for competition among those schools. At present the trophy is held by tlie Paeroa school, and will be competed for annually at Paeroa. “Thanks.—The grateful thanks arc due to the Hauraki Plains Gazette for the help given in reporting matches and results, to the Paeroa District High School committee for the use of the school grounds in which to play matches, and to the ladies who refereed games during the season. In conclusion your committee wishes all members and the incoming committee a happy and successful season.” The report was adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following oflie.rcs were elected for the ensuing year: Patron, Mr C. H. Pascoe ; president, Mr G. H. Taylor ; secretary and treasurer, Miss C. L. Taylor ; committee, to consist of two delegates from each club to be selected. It was decided that when practicable games would be played in the domain this season, provided a ground was available. A subscription of one* shilling a member is to be levied this season. The meeting was characterised by the keenness of the members, and the season, which commences on May 28, is being looked forward to with interest.
