POLICE COURT.
PAEROA, THIS MORNING. (Before Mr F. W. Platts, S.M.) UNREGISTERED VEHICLES. A charge of using a one-ton motor lorry without having it registered in accordance with the Motor Vehicles Act was preferred against Joseph P. Mitchell, Paeroa. A plea of not guilty was entered, Constable McClinchy stated that he had seen the lorry at Netherton when it was being driven without the necessary number. On being Questioned defendant had stated that his lorry was not actually registered at the. time, but his brother was away in Paeroa obtaining the number. The defendant said that the lorry was the property of his father who was ill at the trme, and was unable to apply for the number plates in person at the post office. However, the plates had been affixed within twenty minutes of the constable’s interrogation. The magistrate said that the excuse was a feasible one. A conviction was entered, together with costs amounting to 10s. Similar charges were also preferred against T. Watts, Turua, and ClaudeMcGregor, Turua. Watts was convicted and ordered to pay costs, 10s. The charge against McGregor was dismissed. Alan Gilbertson, labourer, Paeroa, was charged with driving a Ford delivery van on Thames Road, Paeroa, on April 22 without be.ing the holder of a motor-driver’s license-. He was convicted and fined £l, with costs. RIDING ON FOOTPATH. Henry Ferry, labourer. Komata, was charged with riding a bicycle on the Thames Road footpath, Paeroa, on April 3. A conviction was entered and defendant was ordered to pay costs amounting to 10s.
