It is understood that during last week the local office of the Public Works Department has sent 20 unemployed men from Paeroa and Waihi to the relief works on the WaihiWhangamata road. Advice has been received that a further batch of. 25 unemployed men from Auckland is due. to arrive at the works this week. The- department is hopeful of employing between 60 and 70 men on the relief works in the near future.

Towards the closing stages of the West v. Netherton junior football match at the domain on Saturday afternoon a Netherton playe.r, Hector Fraser, received a knock which caused slight concussion. The foreman was instructed to report on tlie position. A compensation claim from the Hauraki district was next considered, but, being sub judico, it could not be reported.

During the last three nights and mornings heavy white frosts have been experienced locally. The first frost this winter, on Saturday, was unusually heavy. Days of bright sunshine have followed.

The Works-Committee, of the Hauraki Plains County Council on Friday last passed a resolution offering no objection tp the erection of benzine pumps at the stores of S. Rolfe, Pipiroa, and the Farmer.-.’ Trading Co., Netherton.
