POLICE COURT.
DRUNKENNESS AND BEtiGING.
SEVEN DAYS’ GAOL IMPOSED.
At the Police Court, Paeroa, yesterday morning, before Messrs H. J. Hare and B- Gwilliam, J’s.P., a middle-aged labourer, named Thomas Forrest was. charged with begging alms in Normanby Road, Paeroa, on Wednesday. Charges of being without lawful means of support and drunkenness in Belmont Road were also preferred. Pleas of guilty were entered. Constable McClinchy stated that tlie defendant had been drinking about the town, and had called on the Mayor and asked for the price of the train fare to Waihi, to which town he wished to go to look for work. Mr Marshal] had obligingly given the money for his fare and a meal, but instead of leaving Paeroa the defendant had spent the money on, buying drink. On the first charge defendant was convicted and sentenced te seven days’ imprisonment in Thames Gaol, and on the two other charges was convicted and discharged.
