MOTOR LORRIES COLLIDE
ACCIDENT ON THAMES ROAD.
ONE VEHICLE BADLY DAMAGED.
A rather serious collision between two heavy motor lorries occurred on Tha/nes Road at the intersection of Norwood Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.
It appears that a large lorry, the. property of Messrs Spencer and Smith and driven by Mr B. Spencer, was coming out of Norwood Avenue on to Thames Rpad, and When about to make the turn the driver noticed a lorry, the property of Messrs Brenan and Co. and driven by Mr Kelly, coming up the main road towards Paeroa. In order to complete the turn and get on to his right side on Thames Road Mr Spencer accelerated slightly, and through hi.s view being obscured at that point by a high hedge and trees, he did not see a large lorry, driven by Mr Alex. Morrison, Hikutaia, approaching from t'he direction of Paeioa The result vas a resounding collision which, under the circumstances, was purely accidental and unavoidable.
Tlie. lorry driven by Mr Morrison sustained a crushed radiator, and the chassis was also considerably damaged.
Mr Spencer’s vehicle got off more lightly and, although the chassis was bent, it was possible to drive the lorry under its own power.
The driver of the third lorry, Mr Kelly, was able to pull up before the impact occurred.
