PAEIIOA LADIES’ CLUB.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of the Paeroa Ladies’ Hockey Club was held last night, the president (Mr W. L. Lawrence) presiding over a large attendance. The second annual report, which was read by the secretary (Miss A. F. Morland), stated, inter alia, that during last season 13 inter-club matches had been played, of which number Paeroa had won five and drawn one. Miss V. Shand had again gained representative honours in the Goldfields team, and to this player the congratulations of the club were extended # Arrangements were made with the Domain Board for a splendid hockeyground and conveniences which were second to none in the district. Through the generous action of the Paeroa Rugby Union the rental of the ground had been paid by that body, and the Hockey Club had foregone its share of the gate takings. Tlie season had commenced with a membership of 17 active players, but that number decreased to 13 before the season r finished. As a means of raising funds to purchase necessary playing gear a dance was held early in the season and resulted in sufficient funds being available to carry on through the season. The grateful thanks of the club were due to the local Rugby Union, to the president, to Messrs C. Stallard, E. G. Preston, and L. Mahon, who officiated as referees : to Messrs H. M. Shand, R. Sw’hnn, and T. Dawson for help in marking out the ground and erecting the goals, and to many others who had assisted the club with its dance and in various ways throughout the season. The balance-sheet showed the expenditure to be £56 15s 7d, and receipts totalled £59 10s 10d, leaving a credit balance of £2 15s 3d. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet the president congratulated the club on the satisfactory season it had experienced.
