ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN.

PUBLICITY FOR ELECTRICITY. IDEA NOT FAVOURED BY BOARD. That the Thames Valley Electric Power Board is anticipating a difficulty in maintaining a continuous supply of electricity in the event of the demands for power increasing before the completion of Arapuni was advanced as one of the reasons for not complying with a request contained in a letter from the Waitemata Electric Power Board, Auckland, advising that it had passed a resolution to the effect that the board was in favour of expending a sum not exceeding one per cent, of annual revenue in advertising campaigns. The board had also resolved to circularise all power boards and supply authorities, suggesting that they should pass a similar resolution so. that when the matter came before the Power Boards’ Conference the support that the combined advertising committee would receive might be definitely known. The chairman (Mr F. M. Strange) said that at the present time, owing to the probability of a shortage ">f supply from Horahora, and until Arapuni was available, he did not think the board should undertake any publicity. Mr J. B. Thomas said that the best advertisement the board xould have would be by giving a cheap and efficient service. Mr J. Pohlen moved that a reply be’ sent that the board did not consider the time was opportune to undertake a publicity campaign. The manager (Mr R. Sprague) said that the idea was all right from a small board’s point of view, but so far as the Thames Valley Board was concerned it would mean an expenditure of over £lOOO. Mr F. E. Flatt seconded, and said he thought that if the board had such money available, or even a portion of it, the money could be better spent in other directions. The chairman said that so far as advertising electrical equipment was concerned he favoured sending out circulars. If the board could afford it he believed it would pay to fit out a sales motor lorry and canvass the boardls reticulation area. The resolution was carried.
