MILITARY SPORTS.

NGARUAWAH'LA CAMP RESULTS. PAEROA PLATOON HEADS LIST. With the compulsory militaiy training of our citizen army in this Dominion the sport,ing instincts of youth are strongly appealed to. This fact was clearly evidenced, at the conclusion of the territorial camp of the first battalion, Hauraki Regiment, at Ngaruawahia. A tabloid sports meeting was held, and it is pleasurable to record that out of ten platoons and a ma-chine-gun section the No. 2 platoon (Paeroa) won the first honours. The local platoon under the command o’f Lieut. W. L. Lawrence, ably supported by Sergeant C. S. Ryan, comprised W. Smith and Privates R. Swann, R. Barakat, H. Underwood, N. Neil, C. Niehl, E, Duffy,. Dixon, G. Helling, W. Jenkinson, and G. Tressider. Twelve men comprised each platoon’s team, and each of the seven events, ending up with an inspection marcr past, had to be entered 'for and completed to count in the points. As stated before Paeroa won, with a total of 65% points, while Te Aroha, 62 points, was second, and Thames, 60 points, was third.

Following are t.he points scored by the Paeroa platoon in each event: 75 yards sprint, 10 ; high jump, 9 ; putting the shot, 10 ; backward race, :i ] j ; three forward jumps, 10 ; threelegged race, 7% ; relay race (in this event Paeroa was disqualified for over-carrying the peg), 1% ', march past, 14 ; total, 65% points. Te Aroha scored 5%, 7%, 4,3%, 8%, 3, 10. and 20, making a total o’f 62 points. Thames, 7%, 3%, 8, 8* 8%, 5%. 3. and 16, totalling 60 points.

Included in the number of interested spectators was Colonel H. R. Potter, C.M.G., N.Z.S.C., officer commanding the Auckland military district, At the conclusion of the meeting tlie platoon commander (Lieut. W. L. Lawrence) was the recipient of congratulations on the success gained by liis platoon from Colonel Potter, as also was Sergt. Ryan (platoon sergeant).
