BOWLING.
CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS TITLE GOES TO WAIKINO. Good weather prevailed locally for tlie annual Goldfields Champion of Champions Tournament, which was played on the local green this season. Commencing soon after nine o'clock <>n Saturday morning, seven rinks took part. The tournament was finally won by R. vercce (Waikino) J who went through with the loss of one game only, his total score beipg five wins. Stewart (Matamata) and Childerhouse (Te Aroha) each gained four wins. The Paercia club was represented by this year’s champion, T. L. Williams, who registered two wins. It was considered that Williams, who is a comparatively young player, and has been playing with marked success for his club this season,, worthily upheld his position, but lacked the knowledge of rink-cra'ft possessed by some of the’ntore experienced players. Prior to the commencement of the tournament the visiting players were warmly welcomed by the Paeroa club’s president, Mr P, Williams, who congratulated the players on having reached the championship stage in their respective clubs. He expressed the h'pe that the representatives would experience an enjoyable tournament, and that the best man would win the coveted title of champion of tlie Goldfields.
An apology was read from tlie Thames club expressing regret that tlie representative from that club was unavoidably prevented from taking part in the tournament. At the conclusion of play Mr Vercoe was the recipient of congratulations c,u all sides, and his win was a very popular one. In acknowledging the plaudits Mr Vercoe said that he was proud of the honour he had won for his club. He had tried on numerous occasicius to win the title, and was gratified to realise that he had at last been successful. He paid a. tribute to the good sportsmanship of his opponents, and expressed his appreciation o'f the hospitality pf the Paeroia club and the splendid playing condition of its green.
