DISCUSSION BY POWER BOARD. GOVERNMENT’S EXPLANATION. During the last Christmas and New Year holidays the Thames Valley Electric Power Board experienced some difficulty in reconciling accounts far power consumed bj’ certain dairy factories within its area, and the matter has been taken up with the Public Works Department with the object of arriving at a satisfactory adjustment. At Tuesday’s meeting of the board a letter was received from the department’s district electrical engineer in reply to the board’s contention that the Horahora peak reading of 124 K.V.A. on January 5 was incorrect. The engineer stated in the course of his letter that the department could And no reason why the position should be as stated by the board. The total load on the day in question was also higher than for the five days preceding or following, and. that tended to confirm the fact that the board’s load on January 5 was exceptional,
It was suggested that there was a possibility that following the holiday period the dairy factories under the three-party ‘ agreement had an unusually high peak or had a peak load at an hour coinciding with the farming peak. In that case the factory peak would be subtracted from the total quantity peak load, according to the agreement.
On receipt of the information from the department the matter was referred to the board’s engineer (Mr N. -1. McLeod), with the result that, a further letter was sent to the department pointing out that no trace abnormal loading could be found at, any of the factories. In fact, several plants which normally would be working had not started operations after the holiday season. Under the circumstances the board was certain that some error had been made at Horahora. The maximum demand indicate! s at Waharoa for that week did not show any abnormal loading, and likewise with the Matamata factory. In view of these facts it was hoped that some allowance could be made. The matter has been left in .the hands of the engineer and manager, pending a further reply from the department
