DISTRICT NEWS.
TURUA. SCHOOL PICNIC. The luck of the children of, the Turua school was right out on Tuesday, for the day of theiV long-looked-for-ward-to picnic at New Brighton was cold and wet. Picnicking was out of the question, but arrangements had been made and the children could be disappointed. They were accordingly packed into the many motorbuses which had been hired and taken for a drive across the Plains to Waitakaruru and back to the Turua. Public Hall, where, after dinner had been eaten, indoor games were arranged until such time as a picture programme was secured and the windows covered for a free picture matinee. Although disappointed at not being able to go to the beach, the children were very satisfied with their day.
