MERCURY BAY FISHING.
visit by Plains party.
VERY PLEASANT OUTING.
The Mercury Bay fishing grounds were visited during last week-end by a party of twelve 'from Netherton and Kerepeehi, and though no big fish were caught they report a very enjoyable and inexpensive outing. Mercury Bay is 54 miles beyond Thames, and the road was found to be in good order, though very narrow and crooked. The scenery was magnificent, far surpassing anything ever, seen before by any of the party, and for it alone the trip was worth while. At the Bay there is splendid accommodation, and every facility for fishing, and before long the place will become an attractive fishing resort.
A kingfish weighing 801 b was caught by Mr Jack Johnson, of Netherton, who also landed a hapuka weighing 501 b and a 201 b schnapper. Hapuka and schnapper were caught in such quantities that they became unwelc me, particularly as they could not be played. An Bft shark provided the most sport.
