PERIODICALS AND MAGAZINES. CURRENT ISSUES RECEIVED. The last issue o’f the Auckland Municipal Record to hand shows the advancement that has taken place in that city of late. The frontispiece is an excellent view of Queen Street. Other views include a busy traffic point at the junction of Queen and Custom streets.; safety-zone at the ’foot of Queen Street; traffic at the junction o'f Symonds Street; illustrations of the traffic signals and their meaning ; view of cars parked in Albert Street; visible signs of Auckland’s progress, showing Queen Street in 1840', 1850, and to-day, and Fort Street in 1850, 1870, and 1926 ; Symonds Street, one of the busiest outlets of the city, showing the traffic ; Views of the harbour in 1842, 1862, and 1869, when Auckland had no traffic problem ; and several views of animals at the Zoological Park. The letterpress,, in the issue gives a lot of valuable information relative to the city, its traffic, reading, and growth. The whole number reflects credit on the corporation for its publication.
, The, Christmas numbers of magazines to hand include “Chums,” "Hutchinson’s Adventure Story,” “Mystery,” "True Story,” and "Best Story."
“Chums” is essentially a boys’ magazine, and this number has many interesting Christmas yarns, and also a splendid colour-plate. Hutchinson’s magazines are noted productions, and contain excellent reading by’leading writers and contributors to magazines, amongst whom are Gilbert Frankau, lan Hay, John Oxenham, E. F. Benson, William Le Queux, and Roland Johnson.
