SEWERAGE WORKS.
RAILWAY SETTLEMENT SECTION.
GOOD PROGRESS MADE.
The Paeroa Borough Council has a rather big job in hand at the present, time in extending the sewerage system from the main near Station Road across Thames Read to the Railway Settjemmt. By putting local unemployed men on the work in addition to the council's regular employees and doing the job by day labour it is anticipated that a considerable saving will be effected.. This, has been made possible by the fact that the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) is personally supervising the whole of the work. Had tenders been called and the job let on contract, it would have been necessary to pay a clerk o'f works, an inspector’s 'fees, which would have meant a considerable added cost. A new departure is being followed in that the trenches to carry the pipes are being opened up by means of ploughing to a depth of over 2ft 6in This not only is very much quicker, but is more economical. A continuation of fine, weather is all that is required to enable the council to carry out the largest sewerage, job yet undertaken expeditiously and with credit
