BOWLING.

MIGHT PLAY MATCHES. KEEN COMPETITION PROVIDED. During the last few weeks considerable interest has been taken in the local night-play challenge buttons. On Monday night a team representing the local Public Works Department and comprising J. McDonald, W. Forrest (substitute 'for J. Wilkinson), W. Purdie, and F. Marsh (skip) challenged the holders of the buttons, Lowry, Perston, Morland, and T. H. Hale (skip). After an interesting game Hale’s team proved too good for the. challengers and wo*n comfortably, the scores being 23 to 18. Last night a friendly game was played between the Scotch and the English. The teams were : English ; R. Lowry, C. Pascoe C. Cane, P. Williams (skip) ; Scotch ; W. McCullay, W. Forrest, W. Hamilton, W. Purdie (skip). The refreshing and mild evening drew a fair number of spectators. The teams were very evenly matched, and after a good exhibition the “Kilties” won by three points. The “Bulldogs” had matters their own way for the first five heads, in which they piled on nine points. On the sixth head the “Kilties” replied with four points, and in the following four heads added seven points to the'r total. The “Bulldogs” hung on with that proverbial tenacity, and <ni the tenth head the scores were eleven all. At the 13th head England wafe leading by two pointe, bu.t the Scotchmen woke up and got their second wind, and by good bowls they gained a neat Tour for the head, and led by two points. Freni then onwards they were never headed, and the “Bulldogs retired to their kennel to entertain the victors when the final scores, ~22 to 19, were announced.
