Mr F. W, Butler, of the local engineering staff of the Public Works Department, has been appointed borough foreman to the Waihi Borough Council. There were 40 applicants for the position.
Official information has been received that Captain A. E. Porritt, Paeroa officer commanding A company, first battalion, Hauraki Regiment, lias passed the examination lor the rank of major.
The many Plains friends of Mr J. Costello, veterinary surgeon to the Farmers’ Veterinary Club, Ngatea, will be pleased to learn he has soi far recovered from his' recent serious operation that it is expected he will be able to leave the Auckland Hospital to-moirow.
