ANGLICAN BAZAAR.

SPLENDID DISPLAY OF WORK.

FLOWER AND COOKERY EXHIBITS.

Favoured with a perfect summer’s day and a mild moonlight night, the St. Paul’s Church annual sale of work, which was held at the Gaiety Theatre, Paeroa, yesterday, was a signal success in every way.

The keynote of the decorations, which were particularly pretty, was originality and daintiness. Profiting by the experience of former bazaars, many novelties were introduced into the general scheme. The; sofa greenery qnd gaily-coloured articles displayed made a pretty scene. As is usuaj, the various stalls were placed down the two walls and in front of the stage, while the centre of the theatre was occupied by rows df seats. A visit to the bazaar yesterday afternoon revealed the stalls laden with varied a.nd useful articles. The exhibition of work bore eloquent testimony to the many hours of hard toil and scheming on the part of the members of the Ladies’ Guild and other ehlpers, and the ready sale which the goods met with must have given great satisfaction to thofee who were responsible. As a result *bf yesterday’s effort the funds of the church will be augmented considerably.

Space does not permit of criticism of each individual sta.ll, but, in passing, probably the sweet stall attracted the greatest attention on entering the bazaar. Under a canopy off pale green oak tree boughs and other greenery many kinds of delectable home-made sweets and novelties were disposed of, ;qnd the supply was equal to the demand made upon the attendants.

The artistically decorated flower stall also called for favourable comment, the wealth of bloo.ms being displayed to advantage, and all classes Of flowers found eager purchasers.

The cocking competitions resulted in a large number.of entries, and the judge. Mr T. H. Hale, wasi given a difficult task to make the awards. In the flower show section many beautiful blooms were displayed, and the judges, Messrs; J. A. Reid and R* W. Evans, were loud in their praises of the wealth and variety of the flowers.

In the class for the best bowl of ro’ses there were nine entries, while the champion rose of the show drew eight entries. A pleasing feature of the exhibition was .the interest the children took in the show. In the class for six buttonholes there were no less .than eight entries staged. THE STALL-HOLDERS.
