GAIETY THEATRE PICTURES. TO-NIGHT. THE GRAND DUCHESS AND THE WAITER. “The Grand Duchess and .the Waiter” is a sparkling story, and is regarded as one of the best ever written by Alfred Savoir. The heroine o£ the picture is Florence Vidor, a haughty Russian Grand Duchess, who is forced to flee to Paris following the rise of revolutionists in her home country. Adolphe Menjou portrays the part of an adventurous young cavalier of the Roulevardes who, for the love of the Duchess, masquerades as a floorwaiter in her hotel suite that he may be near her SATURDAY NIGHT. THE UNGUARDED HOUR What would happen if a flippapt, thrill-seeking young American girl should set her cap for a conservative, woman-hating young foreign nobleman ? This situation forms the unique theme of "The Unguarded Hour,” to be screened to-morrow night. THE HAPPY ENDING. “The Happy Ending,” also to be shown to-morrow night, tells the eternal struggle between the mother in her endeavours to keep her children’s illusions about their father, and the father’s subtle scheming to remarry his wife for a comfortable home. The mother ajlmost succumbs to the rake’s pleading, only to find that meanwhile her son, through his influence, has been drinking in loose company. TURUA PICTURES. SATURDAY NIGHT. Joseph Conrad, recognised master of sea stories, tells of Jim, a young English sailor who breaks the traditions of the sea when he deserts his steamer in distress, along with others o'f a rascally crew. His certificate is cancelled and he drifts from port to port, always farther East, hoping to get away from the stigma of his act. Percy Marmont gives his best screen characterisation as the idealistic young Englishman, Jim. Noah Beery has the part °f the brutal se,a captain, and Shirley Mason that O’f the hajfcas.te girl, Jewel. GAIETY THEATRE CONCERT. TUESDAY’S ENTERTAINMENT. From the orchestral overture to “God Save the King” the Grand En- . tertainment to be held in the .Gaiety Theatre, Paeroa,. on Tuesday next, November 23, bids fair to eclipse any previous effort in the district. A'n ambitious enterprise has been shown by the management in obtaining the services of Mr Joe. Smithson. This versatile artist is a firm favourite with Auckland audiences, and will doubtless delight Paeroa patrons. The entertainment will also be .assisted by the Follies Costume Comedy Company, a eleven band of artists, whose efforts in other parts of New Zealand have been enthusiastically received. The pick of the district’s talent, embracing artists from Waihi to Hikutaia, and orchestral selections will doubtless draw a record crowd to the Gaiety Theatre that evening. Popular prices are being charged, apd the entire proceeds from the effort will go to the work of the Salvation Army.
