HOSPITAL REPORTS.
THE THAMES IWTTUTION. PROGRESS DURING OCTOBER. The following reports 'for the month of October were; read and approved at Monday’s meeting of the Thames Hospital Board: — SUPERINTENDENT’S; REPORT. The medical superintendent (Dr. W. Sowerby) reported that 38 males and 29 females had bem admitted and 30 males and 30 females had been discharged, leaving 38 males and 23 females in the hospital at date. There had four deaths during the month. Thirteen out-patients had been treated, involving 72 attendances. A total of 35 operations were performed during the month. MATRON’S REPORT. The matron (Miss K. M. Ansenne) reported that Miss Moore, of the Health Department, had made an official inspection of the stores system and management, and had abto delivered lectures to the nursing staff on ward management and nurses’ duties. During the month two patients had been admitted to the matej-nity annexe, and two babies had been bora. Two women and three babies were remaining in the institution at date. The .matron also, reported at length on .staff matters, and suggested that owing to the resignation of Nurse Brewis it would be advisable to appoint a. further nurse 'fox - the annexe. In moving ,the adoption of the report Mr Brenan asked where the third baby had come from. The chairman (Mr W. E. Hale) replied that the annexe received “strays” now and again, and reminded Mr Brenan that he would find the same thing would occur when Paeroa got its maternity hospital. Mr Brenan replied .that .that might be, but it would be a lohg time to look forward to. He thought that as Mi' Walton had bejsn on the hospital committee during the month he might have looked into that aspect. Mr E. L. Walton replied that in company with the chairman he- had made an inspection of the institution that morning. The matron’s time; had been rather monopolised by the chairman, and he did not like to spoil the good relations existing between the board and the staff. (Laughter.) ENGINEER’S REPORT. The engineer (Mr A. M. Sommerville) reported that the coal consumption fox - the month was 26 totes 2cwt. DISTRICT HOMES. The superintendent df the District Homes, Tararu, reported that there were 12 male and 3 female inmates at "the institution. Hearty thanks were accorded the promoters of a concert party which had visited the homes during the month and entertained the ihinates. NURSE TO NATIVES;. The district nurse to Natives (Miss J. M. Jarrett) reported that ,she had attended and advised 36 patients, involving 289 visits. Fourteen pas had been visited and lectures given on typhoid and typhoid inoculations. Seven Maoris had been sent to hospital, 83 Natives were inoculated, and 78 received the second inoculation against typhoid.
