SCHOOL HOLIDAYS.
ALTERATION BY BOARD.
TWO WEEKS GRANTED IN MAY.
A circular has been received from ilie Auckland Education Board with reference to school holidays. After considering the referendum taken of school committees and local managers on the question the board advises that it ha® agreed to adopt the scheme recommended by the Education Department. The first term will now consist of 14 weeks, with two weeks’ holiday in May ; the second term to consist of 14 weeks, with two week’s holiday at the end of August; .and the third term to consist of 14 weeks, ending with six weeks’ holiday at Christmas, with the proviso that school committees may postpone the May holidays until the beginning of June upon obtaining .the consent of the board.
The board has, also resolved to a ; dd Easter Tuesday to the Easter holidays, which formerly consisted of Good Friday and Easter Monday. Schools in the Auckland district will close for the Christmas vacation on Friday, December 17, 1926, and reopen dn Monday, January 31, 1927. The dates, for the term holidays for 1927 are as follows :—
Easter : Good Friday, Easter Monday and Tuesday. May: Two weeks commencing May 7 and ending May 22. August: Two weeks commencing August 27 and ending September 11. In addition to the foregoing, school committees, have the authority to grant three single days’ holiday, so long as they are not added to the term holidays. Thq following special holidays will also be observed : Anzac Day, King’s Birthday, and Labour Day.
