OBITUARY.
MIL EDMUND QUINLIJ AA. By the de;ath of Mr. Edmund Quinlivan at Auckland on Thursday last a, link with the early days in Ohinemuri has been severed. Born in. Melbourne, deceased arrived at Thames with his, parents in 1867. Laterl he his father commenced a butchery business at Owharoa, deceased afterwards taking up farming pr.usuits at the Waitawheta. It was during .this time that the late Mr Quinlivan interested himself in racing, and he held the distinction of riding his father’s; horse Matlock into second place, at the first Ohinemuri Cup meeting at Paeroa. At that time the grandstand was situated on what: was known as Fisher’s Hill, where .the present post office stands. The course extended ro'und the. edge of the township and the riverbank. He also won the Thames Goldflejds Cup o,n Luck Penny 36 years ago. About 25 years ago deceased left the district and went to Hawke’s Bay, where 'for 20 years he was. managing Mr E. J. Watts’ stud farm at Longlands, Hastings. During his residence there he was. associated with .the training of Bobrikoff, Desert Gold, and other notable turf whiners Some five years ago, when Mr Watts disposed of his property, deceased went to Auckland, where he has lived in retirement at OnsW Road. He enjoyed good health up to about six weeks ago, when he developed a serious illness, to which he succumbed. Deceased, who was the eldest brother of Miss M. Quinlivan and Messrs William and John Quinlivan, Pae/toa, is survived by .his widow.
