THE RAINFALL.

PAEROA FIGURES FOR OCTOBER. TWENTY WET DAYS RECORDED. From records supplied by the lecal office of the Public Works Department the rainfall at Paeroa during last month was in excess’ of the corresponding month of previous years. During October 8.73 inches off fiain were recorded, compared with 3.16 inches for October, 1925, an increase of 5.57 inches. Rain fell on 20 days during the month, the heaviest fall being on October 1, when the fall recorded w,as 3.01 inches. For the week ended October 7 a, total of 4.70 inches was registered. The total rainfall this year to the end of October was 52.34 inches, which is 14.36 inches in excess of that registered for the corresponding peridd of last year. The thermometer averaged 55 degrees during last month, the hottest day being on October 3, when the; 63 degrees' mark was reached. The prevailing wind was westerly during ten days of the month, while a; northwesterly prevailed on nine days.

HAURAKI PLAINS RECORDS. Rain fell on 22 days during October, according to the gauge at the Lands Department’s’ Kerepeehi office, the total fall being 7.61 inches. This high total has only been equalled five times since recording was commenced at Kerepeehi fourteen years ago. The average; fall for October is 3.90 inches. During' the first week of the month the total fall was 4.15 inches, and up to the 16th there was only one day on which rain was not recorded. Including the two wet days at the end df the previous month the total fall was 6.92 inches. On October 2 the fall was 1.99 inches, and on the 10th it was 1.34 inches. The total fall for the year to date is 4:5.43 inches, compared with 33.78 inches for the same period last year and an average of 37.18 for the sa;me periods in the last ten years. So far there have been 145 wet days this, yean.
