USE OF DOMAIN.
SHOW SOCIETY’S APPLICATION. RENTAL DISCUSSED BY BOARD. At the special meeting of the Paeroa Do.main Board held IpAt night a formal application 'for, the use of the domain for two days was receive from the Hauraki A. and P. Society.
Paeroa. Mr J. W. Silcock moved that the application be granted on the same conditions a.s last year, namely, a fee of £7 10s, reducible td £5 if on or before January 31, 1927.
This resolution brought Mr J. Pi' l ' der to his feet, and he moved, as an amendment that the rental be £7 10s, reducible to £5 s>s>'.
In support’of his amendment Mr Pinder said he moved it as a matter of principle. Three spdrts bodies had had the rent increased during the past two seasons. The charges made for the areas in the domain were, in his opinion, inconsistent. The maintenance on the croquet lawns during last season was £26, anu the bdard this year had increased the rental by £5 ; yet the season before £36 had been spent on the lawns but no increase had been passed on to the club. He considered that the show society should be prepared to pay a toi r rental for the use of the outer domain. Mr J. W. Silcock said that there was not much cha.nce of the society quibbling over an additional ss. Mr H. J. Hare, whq is also president of the society, said he was quite agreeable to the extra 'ss, but he thought it was hardly worth while making it the subject of an amendment. The chairman (Mr W. Marshall) sajd that it was desirable .to assist and foster the holding of the show at Paeroa, and while ’realising that the society was not too financial, it had td bq remembered that considerable improvements had been carried out in the domain, and it was only redJsGna,ble that the society, which would benefit by those improvements, should contribute: something them. .• Mr Pinder said that to show that it was not his desire to penalise the society he would gladly donate £1 Is towards its funds. Mr Silcorck: Hooray, thank you. We’ll remember that offer. The chairman said it was on the cards that a,ll the members would be expected to donate, a guinea. Mr P. E. Brenan .said it was as well not to lose sight of the fact that the show people had ddne a lot of valuable work on the grounds on previous occasiclhs. It was not right to put the society in the same category as a sports club.
After further discussion, the motion was altered to £5 ss, and carried, the amendmejit being withdrawn.
