DESERVING OF HELP.

I’AEROA ATHLETIC CLUB. USE .OF DOMAIN GRANTED. A letter was received from. roa Athletic Club asking for the -use of the domain in which to hold a sports .meeting on December 11 next by the Domain Board a.nd considered at last night’s meting of the board.

The chairman (Mr W. Marshall 1 ) said there was no doubt that the establishment of an athletic club was a forward move, and should prove desirable institution. The suggestion to hold a local sports meeting was a good one, and worthy of help and consideration. A charge for the use of the domain would have to be made, but it should be only a nominal amount.

Mr G. P. de Castro suggested that the charge might be fixed in proportion to the success of the meeting. He considered that it would be more equitable than a straight-out charge tor rent.

The chairman reiterated that it was desirable to give the club as much assistance as possible, especially as the meeting was its initial one, and tlie prospects of success were not assured.

Mr J. .W. Silcock .thought that the application might be granted and the matter of rental decided upon at a later date.

Mr J. Pinder said tha,t the club should be. prepared td pay something for tiie use of the grounds:, and he moved, that the rent be £2 2s.

Mr Brenan said he could not agree with the resolution, and considered that greater assistance should be given the club.

Mr Silcock agreed, and sajd .that his reason tor wishing to defer the fixing of the charge was because it might be more equitable to base the rent upon the net profits made as a result of the meeting. Mr Pinder’s resolution lapsed for want of a seconder, and Mr H. J. Hare’s motion that the application be granted and a fee of £1 Is charged was carried.
