BOROUGH SEWERAGE.

REPORT OF HEALTH COMMITTEE.

EXTENSION OF SYSTEM DESIRED.

The following report was submitted by the Health Commiittee to Thursday night’s meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council; — “Your committee is pleased to report having carefully considejred .the matter of sewerage connections within the area which can be served by the present mains, and at the same time have’ taken the opportunity Of canvassing a number of the. persons interested, with the result tha.t over a dozen applications are before you to-night and several others should be pii.s.sed into ,the borough office within the next few days. “The. committee, is of the opinion that it will be necessary for the council to serve final notices on some of the persons whose names appear on the list prepared by Ute town cleik. We would point out that there are a few on the list who are unable to connect owing to the fact that no sewerage is available ; but in one section it would not perhaps be a very expensive job te lay a branch line to serve some five houses. We refer to Railway and Dearie Streets area, and we would recommend that you consider the matter, and, if desired, possibly you would request the Work® Committee to prepare an estimate before next meeting, of what the work would cost.”

In moving that the report be received and referred to the Works Committee the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) paid a tribute to the good work performed by Or. G’. P. de Castro in having the details cleared up. In reply to the Mayor Cr. de Castro said that he did not want any thanks. It had given him pleasure to assist with the work, and he. h,ad done it also so that the Mayor could not again infer that the speaker had done nothing as a councillor. (Laughter.)
