COURT RETURNS.
QUARTER’S FIGURES FOR PAEROA INCREASE IN ARRESTS. During the quarter ended September 30 there were 50 criminal convictions at the local Police Court, pompared with 15 for the quarter ended June 3Q of this year. Of the total, 39 males were arrested, 10 males appeared on summons, and one female. These figures, show a very substantial increase in the number of arrests. In fact, the figures, are the largest for any quarter over a considerable number of years. There was a slight decrease in the civil business, during the quarter. The nnumber of summonses issued was 56, while the amount sued for through the Court was £613 13s Id. The total amount claimed in cases tried was £458 7s 4d, of which sum £435 11s 8d was recovered through the Court. A total of 16 judgment summonses were issued, 2 distress warrants, and 2 warrants of committal. Five applications were taken by the Magistrate in chambers. The total amount of fines and fees collected was £ll's 9s 6d. WARDEN’S COURT. The work of the Warden’s Court during the quarter showed a steady decline, and there was little moving in mining circles locally. Miners’ rights issued totalled seven, and there were five mining registratiions, two mining surveys, and 13 miscellaneous applications were received, four being granted. There were seven applications fofc mining licenses, but only three were granted. The total fees collected amounted to £2 9s for the quarter.
