BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.
LAST NIGHT’S SOCIAL. A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The dance and euchre tournament held under the auspices of the Paeroa. Beautifying Society a,t the Gaiety Theatre last night proved a great success., and as a result the society s funds will be increased by about £l5. For d.ays beforehand an energetic committee worked hard to ensure that nqthing was . left undone to provide for the pleasure of those wild/would attend, and that committee is to be heartily congratulated on the success 6f its efforts. The dance hall was tastefully decorated, the floor Was in splendid condition, and the music by the Symphony Orchestra left nothing to be desired. Mr W. Pennell ably carried out the duties of M.C., and was most solicitous .for the welfare bf patrons.
The euchre tournament, which washeld on the stag*, attracted over 410 players, and competition was keen for the prizes.
During the suppar adjournment the president, Mr W. Marshall, apologised for the absence Of two of the vicepresidents, Messrs G. H. Taylotr and E. Edwards. In thanking all those who had come forward so wjllingly and worked hard towards ensuring the success of the evening’s functio.n Mr Marshall said that he wished to especially thank the members of the orchestra who had given their services gratuitously, and also those, who had donated prizes for the euchre tournament. On behalf of the society the speaker said that he wished to publicly thank Messrs Waddingham and Argali for the valuable, work they had carried out in Taylor’s Avenue. The trees were, coming to hand, and it was proposed to have a working bee on Saturday next to plant them. Mr Marshall then presented the euchre prizes as follows :—Ladies : Mrs Goonan, first; Mrs Hoare, second; Mrs L. Gibb, third. Men : F. Ha,rdman, first; J. Treanor, second ; G. Morrow, third.
