OBITUARY.

MR. R. A. WIGHT. khe death took place o' Saturday, August 14, at the. Coromandel Hospital, of Mr Robert Alexander Wight, in his. 76th year, after a week’s iiln®ss; The late Mr Wight was the eldest Son of the late Robert Alan and Margaj'etta Wight, of Paeroa, and was bom at Melbourne, where his parents arrived from Scotland in 1851. Five years later the family came over to New Zealand residing for a time at Dunedin. Later the family came North, ajnd Mr R., A. Wight grew to manhood as a farmer on land taker, up at Tamaki, helping his parents in bringing up a family numbering in all 14 girls and boys, of whom -he was the eldest.

Mr Wight’s direct connection with Coromandel dates, back some 36 years ago, when he arrived there a cattle dealer, later taking over a butchery business which his genius for management and business soon made the most succesful in the district. When he disposed of the business he retired to Matariki, a fine property on the coast, just past Manaia Harbour on the southern side, which he bought and made into a highly productive grazing farm. Mr Wight tobk interest in the civil affairs of his town, serving it as a member of the Coromandel County Council and of the Hospital Board ; and has also been president of the local bowling club. He was, charitably disposed, his .sympathy taking active practical form, an unfailing help to, any deserving cause; and many acts of private benevolence may be laid to his credit. Mr Wight, who was unmarried, is survived by four brothers and two sisters.

The, interment (which was, private) took place on Sunday, August 15, at Paeroa. The Rev. T. A. Norrie conducted the buridj service—at the special request of deceased —laying the mortal remains to their last re;st in the. cemetery where already reposed the deceased’s parents and a brother.
