POWER LINES DAMAGED.
EFFECT OF LAST MONTH’S STORM.
THAMES VALLEY BOARD’S ACTION
In the course of the report submitter by the chief engineer (Mr N. G. McLeod) at yesterday’s meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board it was stated that a severe gale started on the night of July 10 and lasted over two days, causing considerable difficulty. The HOrahia 50’,000volt supply was not available for practically 18 hours on the 11th. McLaren’s Falls supply was only available for two and a-half hours during that period. A limited supply was available from the Grand Junction plant to the Paetoa district from about 9.30 a.m, on the same date, The Waihou cisb’iet was practically cut off from supply from 7-30 a.m, to 1 p,m, on the 11th, when our own 11,000-volt feeders to Horahora were made available. The chief difficulties were trees, root’s, and flying debris generally. As far as could be ascertained, all damage to the board’s lines was caused externally. Claims were being made against all those whose, trees caused the damage.
Mr W. E, G, Willy moved that the attention of the department be drawn to the Jailure of the Grand Junction mine to supply the power.
The chairman pointed out that there was a slender chance of such a culmination of adverse circumstances happening again, but perhaps, it wa,s just as well to draw the department’s attention to the position.
