DISMISSAL OF WORKMEN
COUNTY COUNCIL’S: ACTION.
DISMAY IN TE AROHA.
The action taken by the. Piako County Council at its last meeting in deciding to dismis.s all hands' at the end of the week, close all the quarries, and stop all works, on the roads, has created a very depressed feeling in Te Aroha and throughout the whole county (stiites a corrspondent from Te Aroha). Coming at a time when farmers have no work to offer, and no factory cheques coming in, it is difficult to see. where the 100 men who will be looking for fresh jobs are going to find them. What will happen to the roads if they a,re. neglected for a few months is causing the country settlers a good deal of uneasiness. The traffic is so great on many of them that it is only by constant attention that they are kept in repair. That the chairman, who is visiting Wellington in connection with the business', will be able to make some satisfactory arrangements for carrying on the. county works is earnestly hoped for by everyone in the country.
