SHOOTING SEASON.
OPENING ON SATURDAY NEXT. GOOD PROSPECTS FOR GAME. iOii Saturday next, M.ay.l, the. shooting season opens-. So fair as the Auckland acclimatisation district is, concerned' the season dates from May 1 to June 30 for the shooting of pheasant, grey, duck, quail, and black swan. Representations have, been made; by the Ohinemuri Acclimatisation Society to the Department of Internal! Affairs for permission to shoot pukekc, on a portion of the Hauraki Plains, but tmtil; the requisite authority is, received: permission to shoot' these birds connot be given. ■ From reports received the indications a,re that game should be fairly plentiful in the district this season. It is understood' that both phea-ants and quail have b-ben seen in fair numbers bapk on the hills between Komata and Ka ; raugahake. ■ A vve.Ur known local sportsman -reports, that numbers of birdfe have ajjso been seen oiy the: country .between P.aerpa ,-a.nd Tlrohia. - By notice in this issue a number of game sanctuaries are proclaimed, and all properties other than those enumerated are declared: to be, open, subject to the permission of the owners bejng obtained. This means that the number of shooting areas in the district will be. increajsnd this season. Shooting licenses ! and. membership tickets are! now obtainable from the secretary' of the Olhtaenluri Society, Mr D. Leach, Paeroa.
