PAEROA BUILDING BY-LAWS.

£To the Editor.} | Sir, —We decide to comment on the letter headed “Paeroa. Building Bylaws,” which appealed in yours of Monday, April 26. This appears to emanate from some disgruntled person who, especially as hq is a, builder, should have had .the courage to append his na,me. The by-laws here are in our opinion fairly good, and chiefly reasonable wherein they deal with the building trade, which,is theonly part of them which concerns us at the moment. A! natural attitude in a young country like ours is; the common one to da,te of building in flimsy or temporary materials. Largely this is, caused by the fact that growth has been rapid, causing quick changes, ,a ; nd also because people generally adopt the easiest method naturally, and because financial considerations always weigh heavily. But all towns in common have found, Cor many reasons, that ‘‘Brick area” is a very-essential part of .the by-laws. And also they ha.ve experienced this fact, .that permits of .a temporary nature usually mean, permanent edifices of a flimsy nature owing to “hardship,” “forgetfulness,” and various other- causes. The -public o£ this, country require educating to .the fact that it is sound economy to “build on a good foundation’ edifices which a.re not "wood, hay, or s,tubble.”. Personally we, welcome by-law®, which assist in this teaching apart from the; many other reasons by which we consider your by-laws good. The cost in time and money required for the framing of by-laws, is a very big item, much bigger than the average citizen is aware of, and it behoves our City Fathers, to see to it .that they do a good job when compiling same. We have not any knowledge of anything in your by-laws w'hich would cause any hampering of trade, and it was surprising to know .that any councillor would desire to allow his town to be disfigured by permitting infringements of these regulations,,, even though lie has the. legal, power so to do. v ' ? . x ■ ROBINSON AND BEAOLEY. ' ' Builders.
