LOCAL AND GENERAL.
A meeting of the executive of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce is to be heid on Friday evening to consider the. advisability of arranging a Paeroa, .and district, court at the forthcoming Winter Exhibition at Auckland.
A social evening is to be held at St. Paul’s Parish Hall to-morrow evening to give the parishioners and friends an opportunity to formally bid 'farewell to the vicar, the Rev. F. B. Dobson.
A particularly hea,vy pall of fog enveloped the town this morning, and it was after 10 o’clock before the sun penetrated the heayy atmosphere. Large.bus,h and swamp ’’fires are prevailing in the. district at present.
The first meeting of the Ohinemuri Licensing Bench is to be held at Paeroa on June 1. Two applications foi licenses have already been received by the clerk of the Bench, one in respect to the Commercial: Hotel, Paeroa, and one in respect to Kerepeehi. The applicant tor the Commercial Hotel is Mr E'. P. Fathers, a wellknown farmer on the Old Te Aroha Road, and Mr J. Molloy, of Auckland, is tlie applicant for a license at Kerepeehi.
The following nominations: have been received for seats on .the Paeroa district High School Committee.: W. H. Blakeway, C. T. Met,tarn, J. C. H. McDonald, C. H. P.ascoe, W. T. Power, W. Purdie, J. W. Sileock, Walter Smith, R. E. Thorp. The. annual householders’ meeting and election will take place on Monday, April 26.
. A Ngatea player, L. So.werby, had the misfortune to have, his nose broken during the junior match between Ngatea and Kerepeehi on Saturday last. He was running across the field when he collided, with another player, and had 1 to be, carried off the ground. After examination it was found that he received the injury above mentioned.

The Paeroa, Chamber of Commerce received a telegram from Mr A. M. Samuel, M.P., this morning, advising that the Minister for Mines, (the Hon. J. G. Anderson) would be unable to visit Karangahake for .the purpose of meeting the miners and discussing the question of a public crushing battery until, about the first or second week of next month.
The Thajnes Rugby Union has allocated dates foi- inter-union matches as follows : May 29, v. Paeroa, a,t Paeroa; June 12, v. Plains, at. Thames for Birch Cup; July 10, v. Paeroa, at Thames, for Birch Cup. Matches- for the Peace Cup will be played on August . 14, August 28. September 11, 18, and 25. On October 2 a, match will be played against Plains at Ngatea,.
Mr Harvey, the builder of the punt for the Pipiroa ferry, is making good progress with his work, which is drawing near completion. There is room on the punt for four motor-cars in twos abreast. The motive power will be an oil engine, which is now awaited by Mr Harvey, and wfhich should be a,t hand a.t any moment. The punt, will be launched at a convenient high tide and taken to Pipiroa, says the Thames’ Star.
Mrs C. L. Salt, who for tihe last 17 years, has so successfully conducted the Railway Boardinghouse, has disposed of her business and its: leaving Paeroa for Auckland, wlhere for the future she intends to: 'reside. Mrs Salt has many well-wishei> for success in her new home. There is an announcement in another column referring to the business side of her departure.

Pomeroy and Co., Ltd., of Hamilton, draw the attention of the motoring public to ■the fact that they have installed the latest paint-sp'raying plajit'for the application of pyroxylin lacquer in their up-to-date premises in Hamilton. They claim that thiis: new meth oct of, painting will revolutionise the motor painting industry, and that, .they can now give the motorist wh.o has found it impossible to lay up his car for a fortnight for repainting a first-class job within one to four days. Messrs Pomeroy and Co. have a reputation for high-class motor body building, painting, etc., and the installation this up-to-date plant is. in keeping with tihe progress this; firm has made during the last 15 1 years.
