CHILDREN AT PLAY.
TOBOGCIANING ON PBIMROSE HILL COMPLAINT FROM LESSEE. At the .Paeroa Borough Council meeting on Thursday'night the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) intimated that he had Received a complaint from the lessee of Primrose HiU to the effect that by using the western side of the hill'-fpr tobogganing bn, children were destroying the pasture and interfering with, the sheep. The speaker said that the children were not doing any seriousi harm, so far as the pasture was concerned, and he ,thought it was hardly likely that .they would interfere with the sheep. While the board was- anxious to protect the interests of the lessee, it was not reasonable to suggest that the children’s liberties should be curtailed so long as no serious mischief was committed. He pointed out tha.t Primrose Hill was a public reserve for- the use of the public, and it was an admirable, thing for the children to get out into the open spaces provided and play. The headmaster had been approached, and he had signified his willingness .to caution the children attending the public school not to interfere with the sheep gracing. Or. Edwards pointed out that there was ample area on Primrose Hill for the sheep to graze peacefully during the few hours a day that the children the hill. It was decided to take no action so long as mischief was not committed.
