MOTOR REGISTRATION.
SUGGESTED ACCIDENT POLICY.
COUNCIL NOT FAVOURABLE. At the meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council last night the following resolution was forwarded by the Bruce County Council, Milton, asking Tor support* “That eni application being made for the registration of ,a motor vehicle, or the transfer of such regisitration, the applicant be required to furniish proof to the registrar, or deputy registrar, that the owner of the vehicle is covered by a third-party accident insurance policy for, say, £lOOO, for the ensuing 12 months?’ The advantages to both pedestrians and motorists which a resolution, if given effect to, were so obvious that the Bruce County Council considered it unnecessary .to elaborate on them. The Mayor, remarked that as the matter wats a contentious one the rules of debate would have to be obi served.'
Cr. Edwards moved that the council was not prepared to take, any action. He considered that the insurance was unnecessary, and ■ would only be a boon to local insurance companies.
Cr. H. J. Hare seconded, and said that if put into effect it would mean that many owners would have to give up motoring. The Mayor said that it would be fa.r better,.if such a levy Was made, to spend the revenue on roads. The resolution was carried.
