' Negotiations in connection with the allocation- of the cost of the proposed bridge over the Ohinemuri River at Paeroa were advanced a further stage at Thursday’s meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council.
A letter was received from the Paeroa Borough Council conveying the following resolution?, which were carried at a special meeting on February 26, 1926 : — “That this council regrets that the Ohinemuri County hais failed to agree to the allocation as suggested and recommended by the county chairman at the recent negotiations held in Wellington between the representatives of the local bodies) and the Public Works Department. “That in Order to secure the advantage of .the reduction gained by the delegates at the recent conference the Ohinemuri County be asked to agree with the-Paeroa Borough to .a joint contribution of £3OOO from the local bodies, as. arranged by the delegation. ■' •
“That in view of tis importance to the district, a further effort, be made to avoid the .waste and expense of a commission and the consequent? delay to this important work, and that the full meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council be requested to receive a. deputation consisting of His Worship the Mayor and Crs. Edwards, and Hare, and that this sub-committee be given full power to act.”
