TEN MONTHS’ FIGURES.

NET GAIN OF £37,000

The railway returns for the ten months ended January 30 are published in the Gazette. The receipts for the period totalled £6,489,068 (as against £5,795,5'58), and the expenditure £5,280,092, as against £4,624,041 ’•for the corresponding period, of the previous year.

The receipts during the las't month comprised’ £406,493 from the North Island railways, £256',988 from the South Island, and £41,901 from miscellaneous services. The total of £705,382 shows an increase of £109,216 over the January period* of 1925. Expenditure was £253,927 in respect of the North Island railway?', £210,715 in the South Island, and £28,430 on account of miscellaneous, services. The total, of, £493,073 is higher by £63,471.
